Material compatibility

Description

During the transport of fluids in pipelines, interactions with the pipe materials must be taken into account. In the case of polymer pipes, gas may permeate the material, leading to losses and material fatigue. Corrosion of steel pipes depends on water content, wetting, and pH under transport conditions. Fundamental research is being conducted on gas diffusion in polymers, changes in pH in sour gas atmospheres—particularly in the presence of CO₂—and wetting at elevated pressures.
