The Institute of Subsurface Energy Systems is led by a board of directors consisting of the two full-time faculty members, with rotating leadership. In 1983, a departmental structure was introduced at the ITE in accordance with the amended Lower Saxony Higher Education Act. The institute consists of three departments that are autonomous in terms of teaching and research:
- Drilling and Production Technology
- Reservoir Engineering
- Petroleum Production Systems
Central tasks such as the library, teaching materials, academic affairs, and the administration of third-party funding are handled on a cross-departmental basis by staff in permanent positions.
The institute’s leadership is supported in all matters regarding structure and education by a competent advisory board composed of representatives from industry.
