Degree Programs

"Learning by doing" is the name of the game in Clausthal, and it doesn't take place in crowded lecture halls or lab classrooms, but mostly in small groups. This fosters collaboration and team spirit: here, students from diverse fields—ranging from geotechnical engineering, petroleum and natural gas engineering, energy systems engineering, and environmental engineering to economics—work side by side. This not only creates interesting interdisciplinary connections but often leads to friendships that last long beyond their time as students.

The Institute of Subsurface Energy Systems is one of the few of its kind in the German-speaking world.

With its master’s program in Petroleum Engineering, it is the only one in Germany to offer an English-language program in these fields. Within the master’s program in “Petroleum Engineering,” the following specializations are offered in Clausthal:

  • Drilling and Production Technologies
  • Reservoir Technologies

Due to the high demand for well-trained engineers in the field of petroleum and natural gas engineering, this program is also significantly supported by industry.
