Network Meeting: Heat Transition Day
Networking event at ITE, February 7, 2026. Anyone interested in the topic of the heating transition is welcome to attend.
The heating transition is the fundamental shift from fossil fuel-based heating systems (oil, gas) to renewable energy sources for heating buildings and industry, such as geothermal energy. But: How can the heating transition be achieved—beyond mere visions and funding guidelines? Where do things get stuck in practice, why do processes take so long, and what is needed to ensure that solutions can actually be implemented?
These questions will be addressed at the high-profile networking event “Heat Transition Day” on February 7 (12:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Agricolastraße 10) at the Institute of Subsurface Energy Systems (ITE) at Clausthal University of Technology. The event brings together experts from academia, industry, local governments, and the education sector, creating a space for open exchange, lively debate, and new perspectives. “With the Heat Transition Day, Clausthal University of Technology is also highlighting its profile in the circular economy,” says University President Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Schattauer, expressing her enthusiasm for the event.
The focus will be on the following topics, among others:
- societal and economic conditions of the heating transition
- acceptance, social dynamics, and communication
- Barriers and opportunities in deep geothermal energy
- Practical examples from the municipal context
- Concrete solutions
“The event is deliberately built on dialogue across disciplines—technical, social, economic, and political,” emphasizes organizer Prof. Philip Jaeger (ITE). It is therefore explicitly aimed at those interested in the fields of social dynamics, transformation research, energy policy, and science communication. “Please feel free to stop by and join the dialogue,” says the Clausthal scientist.
Continuing education offerings at Clausthal University
Beyond the professional exchange, the “Heat Transition Day” contributes to raising the profile of Clausthal’s continuing education offerings at the ITE. On the one hand, the “GEOThermie4All” course—a practical micro-degree in the field of geothermal energy—will be offered again in 2026 following its successful launch last year. Additionally, the “Geoenergy 360°” program is in the starting blocks, a continuing education program on geoenergy systems within the framework of the TEN.efzn project.
