2025 Georg Hunaeus Prize for Dr. Sebastian Hogeweg
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sebastian Hogeweg, a former doctoral student at the Institute of Subsurface Energy Systems at Clausthal University of Technology, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Georg Hunaeus Prize. The German Scientific Society for Sustainable Energy Sources, Mobility, and Carbon Cycles (DGMK) awards this prize annually to outstanding young scientists in the upstream sector, thereby recognizing Dr. Hogeweg’s exceptional achievements in his dissertation.
Dr. Hogeweg is already the third doctoral student from our institute to receive this award in the last ten years. He defended his dissertation, titled “Numerical Investigations of Reactive Transport Processes during the Storage of Hydrogen in the Porous Subsurface,” in March 2024 with summa cum laude honors. As a research associate, he played a key role in the further development of the open-source simulator DuMux and contributed to several innovative projects on underground hydrogen storage.
The award ceremony took place on May 7, 2025, during the DGMK/ÖGEW Spring Conference in Papenburg. Further information can be found here:
