"Learning by doing", that is the motto of the Clausthal University of Technology and it happens not in overcrowded auditorium or laboratories but most of the time in small groups. Thereby co-operation and team spirit is supported and fellow students from different disciplines such as geoscience, petroleum engineering, energy technology, environmental technology or business administration and economic science are working side by side. This circumstances not only create interesting linkages to other fields of studies but also found long lasting friendships.
The Institute of Subsurface Energy Systems is one of a few in the German speaking countries.

The institute is the only one in Germany that offers a Master of Science program in Petroleum Engineering, which are entirely conducted in English. The latter offers specializations in

• Drilling and Production Technologies
• Reservoir Technologies

Due to the fact that the petroleum industry is keen to employ graduates with a BSc/MSc degree in petroleum engineering it supports substantially the institute and the education provided.
