Georg-Hunaeus Award 2025 for Dr. Sebastian Hogeweg

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sebastian Hogeweg, former doctoral researcher at the Institute of Subsurface Energy Systems at Clausthal University of Technology, has been awarded the prestigious Georg-Hunaeus Award 2025. This award is presented annually by the German Society for Sustainable Energy Carriers, Mobility and Carbon Cycles (DGMK) to outstanding early-career scientists in the upstream sector, recognizing Dr. Hogeweg’s exceptional achievements in his doctoral research.

Dr. Hogeweg is the third doctoral graduate from our institute to receive this honor in the past ten years. His dissertation, entitled “Numerical Investigations of Reactive Transport Processes during the Storage of Hydrogen in the Porous Subsurface,” was defended with highest distinction (summa cum laude) in March 2024. As a research associate, he significantly contributed to the advancement of the open-source simulator DuMux and was involved in several innovative projects focused on underground hydrogen storage.

The award ceremony took place on May 7, 2025, during the DGMK/ÖGEW Spring Conference in Papenburg. Further information can be found here:
