Dr. Thorsten Hinz

Since December 2013, Dr. Thorsten Hinz is Strategic Planning Manager for ExxonMobil Production Germany (EMPG) in Hannover. In this capacity he is responsible for the identification, preparation and support of business opportunities which drive efficiency and effectiveness of ExxonMobil’s Upstream activities in Germany.

Dr. Thorsten Hinz studied Process Engineering here at the Technical University of Clausthal from 1986 to 1992 and completed that with a Master’s degree (Dipl.-Ing.). He then commenced a doctorate position at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, Institute of Process Engineering, Heat & Mass Transfer, and received a PhD from his studies on thermal processing of foodstuff.

In 1996 he started his career with BEB that in 2002 became ExxonMobil Production Germany with the global merger of Exxon and Mobil. He was holding various supervisory and managerial positions in Gas Field Production, Production Engineering and Gas Plant Maintenance.

From 2003 to 2005 he was assigned to ExxonMobil Production Company, Production Projects, as the Process Engineering Supervisor, located in Houston, TX. In this global role he worked in multicultural teams focused to support the Nigerian business. He then further extended his offshore operations experiences when moving into the position of Asset Manager Western Gulf of Mexico & Inland Louisiana for ExxonMobil’s US Production.

Returning to Germany in 2007 he assumed the role of Asset Manager Gas Production for EMPG, followed by an assignment in 2009 as EMPG Planning Manager. Between 2010 and 2012 he was responsible for all Upstream surface engineering activities in Germany as Manager Surface Engineering.
