Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Rappuhn

Thomas Rappuhn is Chief Executive Officer of RWE Dea AG, Hamburg.

In this position he is responsible for the  departments New Ventures, Portfolio Management, Human Resources, Legal Affairs, Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHSE) as well as Corporate Communications.

Thomas Rappuhn was born in Celle, Germany on December 28, 1959. He left school with the equivalent of A-Levels (“Abitur”) in 1978.

After two years of compulsory military service, he studied Petroleum Engineering at Clausthal-Zellerfeld Technical University. During his studies he did several internships in Germany and Britain before successfully completing his course with a Diploma in Engineering (Master of Engineering).

 In March 1988 he started his career with what was then Deutsche Texaco AG, Hamburg. A year later, the company was taken over by the RWE Group and renamed RWE Dea AG. Thomas Rappuhn worked at various sites in Germany up to 1995 when he was appointed Head of Drilling Engineering and Deputy Drilling Manager of the company’s Drilling Operations. It was in this capacity that he managed several offshore and onshore drilling projects in Germany and abroad.

From 1998-2000 he was the Project Manager responsible for developing Mittelplate Field, Germany’s largest oilfield both offshore and onshore including extended reach well drilling. After that, he was appointed Production Manager of Holstein District.

From 2001 to mid-2003 he worked as Deputy Managing Director of RWE-DEA Norge AS in Oslo and was responsible for exploration, production and business development.

 In August 2003 he was appointed Director of the Domestic Gas/Oil Division, a post that also gave him full power of attorney and the responsibility for all RWE Dea’s E&P operations in Germany. 

From January, 2006 to December, 2009 Thomas Rappuhn was a member of the RWE Dea AG Board of Management with executive responsibility for Operations. In this position he was responsible for the divisions Production Europe, Production North Africa, Exploration/New Ventures, as well as for the Geo Support Center, Field Development and Commercial Development & Infrastructure.
